Puppy Contract & Puppy Matching

This is an example of the puppy contract we require for every puppy placed by Lucky Yellow Labs. The contract outlines our commitments to you and your puppy, as well as the responsibilities of each party.

If you have specific preferences regarding sex, color, or temperament, please let us know. We will do our best to match you with a puppy who is a good fit for you and your family. However, we understand that every litter is different, and a particular litter may not have the right match for your preferences. If that happens, you always have the option to wait for a puppy from a future litter that may be a better fit.

We make every effort to keep our puppy prices as reasonable as possible while maintaining our commitment to responsible breeding and excellent care. We are proud to be part of the Good Dog network, where eligible families may have the option to pay over time through Klarna, subject to Klarna’s approval and terms.

Our prices are non-negotiable and non-refundable, except at the sole discretion of Lucky Yellow Labs and McClain’s Meadows.

Contract for Purchase of AKC Registered Labrador Retriever Puppy

Health Guarantee and Bill of Sale

Lucky Yellow Labs & McClain’s Meadows LLC (herein “Sellers” or “Breeders”) herby contracts with 

______________________ (herein “Buyer” or “Client”) on the sale of an American Kennel Club (AKC) 

registered Labrador Retriever. 

_______ (Client Initial) All Lab puppies are sold with LIMITED AKC Registration, which means this puppy cannot be bred at any point in their lifetime.

_______ (Client Initial) If your puppy is bred at any point in its lifetime, this guarantee is void.

New Puppy Wellness

The Breeders take every precaution to produce a healthy puppy through selective breeding, genetics testing and quality care while the puppy is in our hands. We guarantee that by the time you have received your puppy, they have their rear dewclaws (only) removed, wormed twice, received their first round of vaccinations, and received a wellness examination by a board-certified licensed veterinarian. We will provide these records to you on pick-up day. 

_______(Initial) The Client has five (5) days following pick-up to have the puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian. If the puppy is found to be in unsatisfactory health at that time, the puppy may be returned. A full refund of the purchase price will be made or another puppy of similar breeding may be given (at the discretion of Lucky Yellow Labs). Transportation costs for the return of the puppy are the Client’s responsibility.

Lifetime Genetic Disease Guarantee: 

_______(Initial) Puppies are guaranteed for life never to be genetically affected by the following:

Hip and Elbow Dysplasia, Exercise-Induced Collapse (EIC), Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM), Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA-prcd) and Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis (HNPK).

Hip Dysplasia Guarantee

_______(Initial) Both Dam and Sire have certifications from the Orthopedic Foundation of Animals (OFA) and genetic testing of their joins based on AKC guidelines. You can verify these certifications on our website at luckyyellowlabs.com and on the OFA website at ofa.org. If your puppy develops Dysplasia, Lucky Yellow Labs and McClain’s Meadows LLC will provide a refund or credit toward a new puppy based on the following conditions:

1. Evaluation of hips must be done at or after 24 months of age and prior to 28 months of age by a

board certified/licensed veterinarian. 

2. In the event that moderate or severe dysplastic as diagnosed by a licensed/board certified veterinarian based on OFS guidelines, the Breeders reserve the right to consult with the board certified/licensed veterinarian(s) to determine if the dysplasia was the result of anything other than genetics.

Eye Guarantee

_______(Initial) Conditions of examination for eye issues.

1.     The dog’s eyes must be examined and certified by a board-certified Canine Ophthalmologist by the time the dog reaches 30 months of age. Dogs examined after 30 months are not eligible for this guarantee.

2.     If a problem is indicated before the 30^th month stated here within, you must send a copy of the findings or copy of the CAER evaluation by a board-certified Canine Ophthalmologist directly to Lucky Yellow Labs and McClain’s Meadows.

3.    The Breeder reserves the right to consult with the licensed/board certified Ophthalmologist to determine the eye disorder was not a result of an injury, malnourishment, or mistreatment of the puppy. In the event the licensed/board certified veterinarian feels the eyed disorder was due to a factor beyond genetics, such as upbringing or environment this guarantee is void.

Conditions of Health Guarantee

_______(Initial) The following requirements must be met for this guarantee to be valid:

1. The puppy must be up to date with all vaccinations deemed necessary by a licensed veterinarian.
2. The puppy must not have been bred in its lifetime.
3. This guarantee is void if a board-certified, licensed veterinarian determines that the puppy’s condition is caused by the upbringing, diet and/or environment, the result of an injury, malnourishment, or mistreatment of the puppy while in the new owner’s care. 

_______(Initial) Research has shown that dysplasia and other joint issues have three main causes: genetics, over feeding (and poor-quality food inappropriate for large breeds), as well as too much stress on joints at a young age. 

_______(Initial) The Breeders provide guidance regarding diet, healthy body condition, and exercise/play for Labrador Retrievers, but it is the Client’s responsibility to educate themselves, their family and other puppy caretakers. Therefore, we do not cover any health condition due to environmental factors including: over-feeding, over-exertion on joints and bones, accidents, injuries, neglect, poor nutrition, etc. 

_______(Initial) If you have questions or concerns regarding body condition, diet, and appropriate levels of exercise or play, please contact us. Most labradors will by nature run to fetch a ball and eat all day long – it’s up to you to put age-appropriate guardrails in place for your puppy so they develop in a healthy way. 

To Process a Claim

Only the original owner is eligible for a claim. If your puppy qualifies for return on this guarantee due to a genetic problem that is listed above and has been diagnosed by a qualified professional, according to the terms above, the full purchase price of the puppy will be applied toward a puppy of similar quality from another McCain’s Meadows litter (buyer pays shipping or other additional costs associated with the purchase). If the price of the replacement puppy is greater than the cost of the original puppy, the buyer will pay the difference. At no time will the seller make a refund of money except at the sole discretion of Lucky Yellow Labs. 

Breeder Right of First Refusal in Rehoming or Adoption:

____(Initial) The Buyer agrees that at no point in the life of the dog will they be relinquished to a shelter or humane society. The Breeder reserves the “Right of First Refusal” as an option to take a dog back if the Client is unable to provide care for ANY reason. We understand that sometimes life happens in ways we cannot predict. We will not ask for an explanation or judge your situation if you need to rehome your companion. Please notify us if you rehome your companion with another individual so we can reach out to them to provide our contact information and assure them of this clause; we will still honor this clause as it travels with dog, not with the owner.

It is our goal to breed the best quality Labrador Retrievers using best practices; our reputation and integrity are on the line. We are not a business or backyard breeder. We do this for love – the love of our own dogs and the love of the breed. Please rest assured that if your experience is not a positive one, we will do everything in our power to make it right.
